Bereavement Notice: Rev. Lawrence P. Lakey, Former Judicial Council Justice

Dear CME Family,

The Reverend Lawrence Patrick Lakey, former Judicial Council Justice, passed on Monday, July 20, 2020. Rev. Lakey, who had served in the Ninth Episcopal District most of his itinerant ministry (in the Alaska-Pacific, Oklahoma, and Northern California Regions as pastor and presiding elder), retired in recent years near Houston in Pearland, Texas. He became a member of the Southeast Texas Region.

Justice Lakey was elected a member of the Judicial Council in 2002, serving until 2010. He was also the brother of Bishop Othal Hawthorne Lakey.

Services remembering Reverend Lakey will be Wednesday, July 29, at 11:00 AM at the Metropolitan CME Church, 8955 South Freeway, Houston, Texas 77051 (the Rev. Allen Page, III, pastor).  Live Streaming of the Services for the Reverend Lawrence P. Lakey will be available on Facebook Live.

Reverend Lakey is survived by his wife of more than 43 years, Mrs. Annita Lakey, two sons, Corey Lamar Lakey of Oakland, Calif., and Khamal Ade Lakey of Houston; his loving and spiritual daughter, Christy Berry Lakey; and two granddaughters Chazz Niama Lakey of Vallejo, Calif., and Khalani Mikayla Lakey of Pearland; as well as siblings and other extended family members.
