Paragraph 1500.11, (d), (1) states the Committee on Elections “receives applications of all persons who seek to be voted upon for General Conference elected office.”
Further, paragraph 1000.5, §1 in the Errata of the 2018 Discipline requires candidates for the office of Bishop, General Secretary of Personnel Services and/or the General Secretary of Finance and Investments to submit to a “comprehensive credit reporting and certified background check.”
The application process for the upcoming General Conference will be as follows:
- All candidates for General Conference elected Office must complete the CME Church Candidate’s Application found here. https://thecmechurch.org/generalconference2022electionportal/ . Please access the Candidate’s Portal to complete and submit your application by March 10, 2022 in order to assure your name appears on the official ballot.
- In addition to the above, candidates for the Office of Bishop, General Secretary of Personnel Services and General Secretary of Finance and Investments will be required to submit to a credit/background check.
To access the Credit/Background Check Application, visit the CME Church Candidate’s Portal found on the official CME Web site here: https://thecmechurch.org/generalconference2022electionportal/ . Candidates for the Office of Bishop, General Secretary of Personnel Services and General Secretary of Finance and Investments will receive via email a link to the Background Check – Global Link for S2Verify Swifthire after submission of their materials. Be aware that additional charges may apply depending upon the complexity of the application.
Note: A background check may take up to 45 days to complete, thus submitting your application ASAP allows for time to address possible discrepancies. Delaying the Credit/Background Check process could negatively impact your candidacy.
