Greetings CME Members,

We joyously announce the opening of the application process for our inaugural launch of the Ministerial Excellence Fund of the Bold Money Matters initiative of the CME Church. The initial application period will be May 1st through May 31st, 2023. We are proud to offer this historic program through the generosity of our partner, the Lilly Endowment, Inc.

If you have a financial need and are 1) a clergy person in full connection; 2) attended all eight (8) classes of the Bold Money Matters Spring series; and 3) have a student loan, medical, or delinquent mortgage debt you are eligible to apply. Additionally, your Bishop’s endorsement is required and will be requested by the Ministerial Excellence Fund review team following award notice.

This is a taxable grant for successful applicants.  While the financial grant potential is important, what is more valuable is the experience of participants. Even those who do not apply or are not eligible for application gain insight and knowledge as we work to advance financial literacy in the CME Church.

You didn’t qualify this time? No worries. There will be a Fall 2023 series beginning September 5th. Be sure to follow announcements and our website at: www.boldmoneymatters.org.

#BlackChurches4Broadband Encourages Families to Sign up for Emergency Broadband (Internet) Benefit

Our hero, the late Congressman John Lewis, said that internet access is “the civil rights issue of the 21st Century.” A high-speed home broadband (internet) connection is vital for full enfranchisement in today’s world. It opens the door to educational and economic opportunities, connects family and church communities, allows access to remote health care services, and empowers greater civic engagement and activism.

Congress recently created an Emergency Broadband Benefit giving eligible families up to $50 per month to pay for home broadband service. You may be eligible for the Emergency Broadband Benefit if your household has experienced a sudden loss of income during the pandemic, or is currently receiving federal benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Federal Public Housing Assistance, Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit, Lifeline, Pell Grants, or free and reduced-price school lunches.

Visit blackchurches4broadband.org to learn more about eligibility and how to sign up.
