THE GENERAL OFFICERS OF THE CHRISTIAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH (Per the 2018 Discipline of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Chapter 44, Paragraph 1001, Page 189)

The General Officers
¶ 1001. The Connectional program of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church shall be administered by General Officers. The General Officers shall be persons holding offices designated by the General Conference.
¶ 1001.1. The General Officers of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church shall be:

The Executive Secretary of the CME Church
The Editor of The Christian Index
The General Secretary of Christian Education and Formation
The General Secretary of Lay Ministry
The General Secretary of Evangelism and Missions
The General Secretary of Finance and Investments and Chief Financial Officer
The General Secretary of Publications
The General Secretary of Personnel Services
The General Secretary of Ministry to Men
The President of the Women’s Missionary Council

¶1001.8. The Executive Secretary
§1. The Executive Secretary shall be elected by the General Conference and
shall report to the College of Bishops.

§2. The Executive Secretary shall have the following duties and responsibilities:
(a) To administer the operations of the Connectional Headquarters as directed
by the Board of Directors.

(b) To assist in the planning and coordinate the meetings of the General Conference,
the General Connectional Board, the CME Convocation and other meetings
of the denomination as might be requested by General Departments.

(c) To be a liaison between the CME Church and other ecumenical bodies and
agencies as directed by the College of Bishops.

(d) To facilitate with the Episcopal Districts the identification and solicitation
of community development program grants and other such funding resources to
assist the various Annual Conferences.

(e) To facilitate administrative functions for the Christian Methodist Episcopal
Church as directed by the College of Bishops.

¶ 1001.9. Editor, The Christian Index
§ 1. The Editor of The Christian Index shall be elected quadrennially according
to laws enacted by the General Conference.
§2. The duties of the Editor shall be:
(a) Preparing the manuscripts of The Christian Index for publication, including
format, selection of materials, and editing of materials.

¶ 1001.3 General Connectional Board

(b) Supervising all details related to the publication, except printing and mailing
as directed by the Standing Committee on The Christian Index.

(c) Distributing news and informational public relations materials to promote
The Christian Index and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

(d) Seeking membership in the appropriate news services and associations for
the Editor and The Christian Index on behalf of the Christian Methodist Episcopal
Church.

Division of Connectional Ministries

¶ 1002. Connectional departments that are designed to minister directly to the
local congregations and annual conferences of the Christian Methodist Episcopal
Church are: Department of Evangelism and Missions, Ministry to Men, Department
of Christian Education and Formation and Department of Lay Ministry. These
departments shall function together in the church as the Division of Connectional
Ministries. The overall purpose and general functions of each of these departments
shall be as follows.

¶ 1002.1. Department of Evangelism and Missions
§1. Purpose: It shall be the purpose of the Department of Evangelism and Missions
to keep before the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church its evangelistic and
social concerns as these concerns are expressive of the Mission of the Church.

§2. Function: As the center of the church’s mission thrust in evangelism and
social ministry, this department shall have as its specific functions:

(a) To develop and promote programs that will help local congregations
become more aware of and involved in evangelism and mission concerns.

(b) To direct workshops, seminars, etc. at annual, district, and local congregational
levels on the meaning of and strategies for evangelism and the mission
ministry of the church.

(c) To prepare position papers and statements on the vital social, political,
and moral issues before the church and the world.

(d) To represent the CME Church when necessary at conferences, seminars,
etc. as such representation enhances the purposes of the department.

(e) To be the focal point of the ecumenical witness and involvement of the
CME Church on matters of evangelism and missions.

¶ 1002.2. Department of Ministry to Men

¶ 1002.3. Department of Christian Education and Formation

§1. Purpose: The purpose of the Department of Christian Education and
Formation shall be to provide “cradle to the grave” nurture in the Christian faith
for the members of the CME Church.

§2. Function: In addition to those activities normally associated with Christian
nurture, this department shall perform these specific functions:

(a) Prepare, select, and recommend all literature and materials that are to be
used in CME Churches or authorized for the CME Church, especially for Sunday
Church Schools, membership training classes, and children, youth and young adults.

(b) Prepare, select, and recommend leadership training and promotional
literature for all the areas of the life and witness of the CME Church.

(c) Promote programs of Christian nurture by keeping the CME Church informed
about such activities as Christian Education and Formation Week, National
Youth and Young Adult Week.

(d) Promote Church Schools, Christian Youth and Young Adult Fellowships,
Vacation Bible Schools, Adult Education Courses, Bible Study Courses, etc.

(e) Through the General Secretary of the department, be the official liaison
between the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and those colleges under the
auspices of the CME Church and the theological school under the auspices of the
CME Church.

¶ 1002.4. Department of Lay Ministry

§1. Purpose: It shall be the purpose of the Department of Lay Ministry to aid
the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in equipping and enabling the members
of the church to engage in more effective ministry in the Name of Jesus Christ.

§2. Function: As the department of the church with a focus primarily on the
whole people of God, the specific function of this department shall be:

(a) To develop programs that will strengthen the ministry of the laos (the
“people of God”) who, as the “saints” of the Household of God are “building up
the body of Christ.”

(b) To aid the local congregations of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church
to “equip” the members of the congregation to be more effective witnesses of Jesus
Christ in stewardship and service.

(c) To provide materials and leadership to insure that the local congregations
of the CME Church who are engaged in leadership and service roles as stewards,
stewardesses, trustees, choir members, ushers, and other organizational leaders
might be more effective in those roles.

(d) To help local congregations address the needs and concerns of men,
especially those men served primarily by the CME Church.

(e) To strengthen the ministry of local congregations to women, especially
those women served primarily by the CME Church, as women face increased
poverty, desertion, sexism, and aging.

(f) To provide direction to the presidents of the Connectional Boards of
Stewards, Stewardesses, Trustees, and Ushers.

¶ 1003. The Connectional Departments designed to serve the Christian Methodist
Episcopal Church at the connectional level in order to keep the denomination
operational are: Department of Finance, Department of Publications, and Department
of Personnel Services. These departments shall function together as the Division
of Connectional Operations as follows:

¶ 1003.1. Department of Finance and Investments

It shall be the function of the Department of Finance and Investments to
administer the Connectional Budget as approved by the General Conference in
accordance with the Discipline.

¶ l003.2. Department of Publications
It shall be the function of the Department of Publications to provide the
publishing services for the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, publish The
Christian Index, and to administer all of the publishing interests of the church.
It shall be administered by the appropriate Standing Committee of the General
Connectional Board.

¶ 1003.3. Department of The Christian Index.

It shall be the function of the Department of The Christian Index to promote the
editing, circulation, and support of The Christian Index in providing appropriate
news and informational services for the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

¶ 1003.4. Department of Personnel Services
It shall be the function of the Department of Personnel Services to administer
those programs of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church that were related to the
Department of Superannuated Preachers, Widows & Orphans (SPWO), Department
of Personnel Services, the Ministerial Salary Supplement Program, the CME Fire
and Casualty Program, and any other Programs of pensions and insurance that may be established by the CME Church.
