Commission on Concerns of Women in the Ministry
The Commission on Concerns of Women in the Ministry (COWIM) will participate in the Pastors’ Conference 2025!
Hour of Power Worship Service will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 3:15 PM. Rev. Dr. Twana Harris, Presiding Elder in the Third Episcopal District, will be the Preacher.
The COWIM Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 12:30PM . Each Commissioner will have tickets. The tickets are $60.00 each.
Purpose: To set goals and seek avenues to deal effectively with issues concerning the work of women in the ministry; and to develop a plan of action to implement said goals at every level of the Connection.
Goals: The scope of work describing the Commission will expand and articulate five-field goals, as follows:
- Support the mission of the Church
- Encourage acceptance of diversity of gifts for ministry.
- Encourage education with the goal of acceptance of women in ministry at all levels of the CME Church.
- Promote healthy experiential ministry of and for women.
- Provide opportunities for spiritual and educational growth around issues.
Goals Implementation:
- Sponsor a luncheon during the Pastor’s Conference each year;
- Sponsor the Bishop Teresa E. Snorton Scholarship for female seminarians of Phillips School of Theology. to be awarded each year at the Pastors’ Conference. Funds collected will be placed in an endowment fund to assure the continual funding of the scholarship.
- Lead a “sharing and caring” workshop at the CME Unity Summit for focusing on the needs of women in the ministry.
- Women in Ministry conferences are to be held in each Episcopal District twice per quadrennial. Conferences may be hosted by the respective District Commission Representative.
