Presiding Bishop James B. Walker of the Seventh Episcopal District convened the 2025 Joint Spring Meeting of the Carolina Region and New York-Washington Region in Charlotte, N.C.. U.S. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, a faithful member of the Seventh Episcopal District, was the Banquet speaker. Bishop K. Lawson Adjei, the Presiding Prelate of the 11th Episcopal District, through the College of Bishops secured funds from the Emergency Relief Committee of the CME Church to purchase bags of Rice, beans and cooking oil which was distributed among Church members in DR Congo who are currently going through hunger and acute shortage of food as a result of war and the capture of Goma City by M23 rebels. Bishop Adjei thanked Bishop Sylvester Williams, Chair of the Emergency Relief Committee for acting promptly, the CME Church and his colleagues for helping him to fulfill our social responsibility to the sisters and brothers in DR Congo. Some 10 million rural African Americans lack broadband internet, primarily in the South. They cannot use such essential services as online doctor visits, church services, school assignments, family connections, and voter registration. Thankfully, the Federal Communications Commission launched the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), providing nearly 18 million low-income households nationwide with resources to pay for necessary broadband service. The ACP offers eligible families a $30 monthly discount on high-speed internet services, making access free for many participants.

 

Here's what you can do:

1 - Forward to pastors in your network serving rural communities the "Get Connect" Information card below with a contact number and website for guidance through signing up for the ACP program.
