Dr. Theresa Duhart is a native of Cincinnati, OH and a third generation and lifelong member of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

At the General Conference in June 2022, Dr. Theresa Duhart was elected the first General Secretary/Chief Information Officer of the General Department of Communication and Information Technology (CIT). The CIT Department was established to connect, unite and share information, amplify the message of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church using a variety of platforms, provide support services and trainings, and empower the leadership and members of the connectional church with communication and information technology resources.

Dr. Duhart and Dr. Princess Pegues co-founded the Communication and Information Technology Ministry at the 1998 General Conference. Dr. Duhart served as President of the Communication and Information Technology from 2010-2022.

Dr. Theresa Duhart was born to Wellon Duhart, Jr. and Minnie Mae Duhart in Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church from birth to 1980. She attended the public schools of Cincinnati, OH, graduating with honors from Hughes High School. Dr. Duhart holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (Minor in Psychology) from Xavier University of Cincinnati, OH, a Master of Education from City University in Seattle, Washington, and a Doctor of Humane Letters from Phillips School of Theology in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Duhart is a Microsoft Certified Professional and Trainer, and has pursued post-graduate studies in education.

Dr. Duhart is passionate about technology in all aspects of her life. She has served 40 years as an Information Technology professional and administrator in government, higher education and a public-school system. Dr. Duhart has expertise in the fields of communications and marketing, education and educational technology, and information technology. Additionally, she has served as an adjunct faculty member and a technology consultant.

Dr. Duhart is most proud of having a distinguished career serving in information technology positions at higher education institutions. At the University of Puget Sound for 14 years, she served as Chief Technology Officer, and also served in numerous other positions including Director of IT Technical Support Services, and the Director of Educational Technology Services.

At Highline College since 2016, Dr. Duhart currently serves as the Director of Technology Support Services, overseeing technology support services for the campus including all computer classrooms and labs. Additionally, Dr. Duhart serves on the Institutional Effectiveness Committee which oversees accreditation at Highline College.

Dr. Duhart has had several papers published through the premiere computing organization, the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and its Special Interest Group on University and College Computing Services (SIGUCCS). One of the papers was selected for a first-ever Web cast and video production.

Dr. Duhart is a committed servant leader and has served in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church at all levels. She has served as a delegate to the General Conference since 1990, and a member of the General Connectional Board since 1991. Dr. Duhart has served as the Recording Secretary of the Women’s Missionary Council since 2015 and her term ended in June 2023 at the 20th Quadrennial Assembly. She served as the Assistant Secretary of the Council from 2007-2015, and served as the Webmaster of the Women’s Missionary Council Web site since 1999.

A resident of University Place in Washington state, Dr. Duhart is a member of the Ninth Episcopal District under the current leadership of Bishop Charley Hames, Jr. Dr. Duhart is the Secretary/Treasurer for the Alaska-Pacific Conference, and Director of Christian Education for the Oregon-Washington District. She is currently a member of Miles Memorial CME Church in Tacoma, and has served as a steward, trustee, director of Christian Education, and Missionary President in her local churches.

Dr. Duhart is the proud mother of two professional adults, Andrea (Justice) Sellers and Kendall Lewis. Andrea works in project management and Kendall  (Nikki) is a high school educator and football coach. Dr. Duhart is, “Nana” to four grandchildren – Arris, A’Miya, Keniya and Justice, Jr.

Her favorite verse is, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13).
